Where PromptDC works

PromptDC Desktop for macOS and Windows is the flagship experience: one install works everywhere. Select text in any desktop app, every web browser on every website (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox), Mail, Slack, Notion, Word, Outlook, Teams, Discord, Notes, AI desktop clients (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok), and IDEs like Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Antigravity, Trae, and Kiro.

PromptDC is the first desktop app to enhance prompts inside terminal CLIs—including Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy, and OpenCode—on both macOS and Windows. Press Cmd+Shift+E (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+E (Windows), review in the popover, and Replace or Copy.

For browser workflows, the Chrome extension provides in-place rewriting across regular websites without needing Accessibility permissions. Dedicated IDE extensions are also available for editor AI chat panels.

Desktop works across applications

Everyday writing examples

  • Mail, Outlook, and webmail clients
  • Slack, Teams, Discord, and Messages
  • Notion, Word, Notes, and document editors
  • Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and every browser on every website

Coding and technical examples

  • Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Antigravity, Trae, Kiro, and their AI chat panels
  • Terminal, iTerm, Warp, Ghostty, Termius, Windows Terminal, and IDE terminals
  • Terminal CLIs: Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy, and OpenCode
  • ChatGPT desktop, Claude desktop, Grok, and desktop AI clients

These lists are examples. PromptDC Desktop works everywhere and does not require an application allowlist. One install works in any app that exposes selected text to macOS or Windows. You can set per-app default profiles (such as the Code profile for Cursor and terminals, or Email for Mail).

PromptDC is the first desktop app to enhance prompts inside terminal CLIs—including Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy, and OpenCode—on both macOS and Windows. The editable review popover always opens on Cmd+Shift+E (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+E (Windows), and Replace pastes the enhanced prompt without auto-submitting. Read the terminal guide for detailed terminal workflows.

Test an unlisted desktop app

A quick test shows whether the app exposes its selection correctly.
  1. 01

    Open the application

Enter a short editable sentence in any app, browser, IDE, or terminal.
  2. 02

    Select the sentence

    Keep the application frontmost.
  3. 03

    Press the enhance shortcut

Press Cmd+Shift+E on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+E on Windows.
  4. 04

    Check the review popover

If it contains the selected sentence, capture works. Choose Copy for a safe test, or Replace to test writing back.
  5. 05

    If capture fails

Verify the selection, shortcut, and macOS Accessibility access, then use desktop troubleshooting.

Chrome works across regular websites

Website examples

  • Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and generic email forms
  • LinkedIn, X, Reddit, and other social fields
  • Google Docs top-level pages, comments, and replies
  • ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other AI prompt fields

Google Docs uses a canvas adapter on top-level document pages. Comments and replies use the ordinary editable-field path. Email output beginning with "Subject:" fills an empty subject only and never overwrites existing text.

Browser restrictions

The extension has <all_urls> host access, not an allowlist, and its content script runs in all frames without needing Accessibility permissions. Chrome blocks content scripts on browser-owned pages such as chrome:// pages and on some store pages.

A website can also be disabled inside PromptDC. Right-click the page and choose Enable PromptDC on this site to restore it.

Recognized coding hosts

What recognition does

Chrome recognizes specific coding hostnames. If you have created no custom profile, the Code profile stays locked on those sites. After you create one, Chrome checks explicit hostname choices and profile defaultSites matches before its fallback steps.

Read App and website profile defaults for the full automatic selection order.

Examples of recognized hosts

lovable.devbolt.newreplit.comcursor.comvscode.devgithub.devv0.devbase44.comaistudio.google.com

This is an example list and not the complete recognition table. General AI chat sites can remain writing-oriented unless another rule selects the Code profile.

Keep support and recognition separate

Where it works

PromptDC Desktop works everywhere in any app, browser, IDE, or terminal CLI on macOS and Windows. The Chrome extension provides in-place rewriting on regular websites.

What it selects

Desktop per-app rules (e.g. Code profile for terminals/IDEs, Email for Mail) and Chrome hostname rules set a profile only. On Chrome, coding-host locking, explicit choices, defaultSites matches, global last-used profile on ordinary sites, and Grammar resolve in that order.
