PromptDC is an AI prompt & writing assistant that improves anything you type into AI — coding prompts and writing alike — directly inside the box where you type. These docs explain the two modes, profiles, per-website rules, and how to install and configure the extensions.
Where PromptDC runs
Chrome extension
Floating toolbar works everywhere on the web in any text box, with tuned defaults for popular sites including Gmail, LinkedIn, X, Google Docs, ChatGPT, Claude, Lovable, Bolt.new, Replit, and v0. A right-click action and keyboard shortcut enhance selected text anywhere. Writing mode is the default, while coding sites use Coding mode.
IDE extensions (coding)
For Coding mode inside editors: Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Trae, Kiro, Claude Code, and more. PromptDC rewrites coding prompts with mode, format, and model/IDE-aware settings.

Profiles and per-website rules are managed from the extension sidebar and your PromptDC account, and sync across signed-in browsers. API keys stay on the device where you save them and do not sync through PromptDC.
Model Management (BYOK)
Required on the Lifetime plan: add your own OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or Grok API key. Usage bills to your provider account and the key is stored locally (not on PromptDC servers), sent through PromptDC's backend to your chosen provider with each request, and never persisted. Add it from /account/subscription. See API key management.
System Prompt Overrides
In Coding mode you can replace the default rewrite logic with your own system instructions and Always Include rules. See System prompts.

What is PromptDC?
PromptDC is an AI prompt & writing assistant. A floating toolbar appears in text boxes on any website (and a right-click menu and shortcut work too), and one click rewrites your text — fixing grammar, writing emails, sharpening posts, or turning a vague coding request into a precise spec, depending on the active mode.
How do I get started?
Install the Chrome extension (or an IDE extension for coding), sign in, then focus a text box on any site and click Enhance (or use the right-click menu or keyboard shortcut). On coding sites PromptDC defaults to Coding mode; everywhere else it uses Writing mode.
What are modes and profiles?
PromptDC has two modes — Writing and Coding. Profiles are saved configurations within them; nine built-in Writing profiles (Grammar, Email, Social, and more) plus the Code profile, and you can create your own and assign them per website.
Can I use my own API key?
Yes. Lifetime requires your own API key from OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini) or xAI (Grok). You pick the provider and model and pay for your own API usage. Keys stay on the device where you save them and do not sync through PromptDC. They transit PromptDC's backend only to run each request and are never stored there.
