Use PromptDC in Chrome — Plus Desktop for Every App

The PromptDC Desktop app for macOS and Windows is the flagship: one install works everywhere across every browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox), desktop app (Mail, Slack, Notion, Word, Outlook, Teams, Discord, Notes), AI app (ChatGPT desktop, Claude desktop, Grok), IDE chat panel (Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Antigravity), and terminal CLI (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy, OpenCode). Select text anywhere and press Cmd+Shift+E (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+E (Windows) to rewrite.

As an addition for Chrome users, the PromptDC Chrome extension adds a floating toolbar and side panel directly to editable fields across the web. It replaces a selected range while preserving the surrounding field, verifies managed-editor insertions, and requires no Accessibility permissions. If you want one setup for everything, the desktop app covers all web textareas, desktop apps, IDEs, and terminals on macOS and Windows.

Replaces editable ranges with verified insertion or safe copy.

Needs no Accessibility or clipboard permissions in Chrome.

Desktop app covers every app, browser, IDE, and terminal.

The floating toolbar

Focus an input, textarea, or rich editable field on a regular web page. The compact toolbar appears near the field. Hover it to reveal its additional controls.

Disable

The red power control saves this hostname as disabled and hides the toolbar there.

Community

Opens the community prompt picker without leaving the current page.

Enhance

Runs the enhancement with the profile named on the button.

Caret

Opens profile search, profile selection, Action entry, and New profile.

Rewrite an editable field

Examples include email drafts, comments, document editors, and AI prompt boxes. Google Docs uses a canvas adapter on top-level document pages, while comments and replies use the ordinary editable-field path.
  1. 01

    Focus the field

Open a website and click inside the field you want to edit. The PromptDC toolbar should appear near it.
  2. 02

    Enter or select text

Type or paste text. If you select a range inside the field, PromptDC acts on that range. Otherwise it uses the field content.
  3. 03

    Choose a profile

Read the profile name on the Enhance button. Click the caret and choose Grammar, Email, Reply, Social, Summarize, Code, or another profile if the current one is not right.
  4. 04

    Click Enhance

It changes to a processing state while PromptDC sends the request.
  5. 05

    Review the result

Accept to replace the original text or selected range. Managed rich editors verify insertion and copy the result if that check fails. Cancel to keep the field unchanged.
  6. 06

    Check the field

Confirm the rewrite before sending or publishing. Email output that begins with "Subject:" can fill an empty subject in Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or a generic form, but never overwrites an existing subject.

Enhance read-only page text

Use this for visible text that you can select but cannot edit, such as part of an article or a received message.
  1. 01

    Highlight a passage

Highlight a non-empty passage on the page. The floating toolbar appears for the page selection.
  2. 02

    Choose a profile, then Enhance

The visible selection stays the source for the request.
  3. 03

    Paste the copied result

Because the source cannot be replaced, PromptDC copies the enhanced result. Paste it into the destination where you want to use it.

If selection enhancement is unavailable

Right-click the selected text and choose Enhance with PromptDC. Restricted Chrome pages, such as chrome:// pages, do not allow normal extension injection. For unrestricted desktop-wide capture across every application and browser, use the PromptDC Desktop app.

Choose a profile or enter an Action

Switch profiles with the caret

  1. Click the caret beside the active profile name.
  2. Search the list or use the arrow keys to move through it.
  3. Choose a profile. PromptDC saves that choice for the hostname and immediately enhances the captured text with it.

There is one general enhance shortcut, and profiles do not carry individual Chrome shortcuts. See the profile reference for management and automatic selection.

Use an Action once

  1. Open the toolbar caret.
  2. Type an instruction in Tell AI what to do. The field accepts up to 19,000 characters.
  3. Press the send control. PromptDC applies the instruction to the captured text.

Action is temporary. It does not change or persist the active profile. Use the Actions guide for examples and edge cases.

Disable or restore a site

This setting is saved by hostname, so it remains in effect after a reload.

Disable

  1. Focus a field and hover the toolbar.
  2. Click the red power icon titled Disable on this site.
  3. The toolbar disappears and stays disabled for that hostname.

Undo

  1. Right-click a regular area of the disabled page.
  2. Choose Enable PromptDC on this site.
  3. Reload if needed, then focus a field and confirm the toolbar returns.

Use the side panel

Click the PromptDC toolbar icon in Chrome to open the side panel. It stays beside the page and provides an enhancement workspace plus settings and profile management.
  1. 01

    Choose Profile or Action

Pick a profile from the selector, or toggle Action and enter a one-off instruction.
  2. 02

    Enter the source text

Type or paste into the side-panel editor, then choose Enhance.
  3. 03

    Review the result

Use Changes to inspect differences or Edit to revise the enhanced text directly.
  4. 04

    Keep or undo it

Copy puts the result on the clipboard. Undo restores the editor's original text.

The side panel also exposes Language, Code profile output preferences, shortcut customization, Profiles, per-site defaults, account controls, and the library views.

When Chrome does not behave as expected

Toolbar missing

Reload the tab, focus an editable field, and confirm the site is enabled.

Wrong profile

Open the caret and select another profile, then review website defaults.

Enhance button unavailable

Enter non-empty text, confirm sign-in in the side panel, and retry.

Result copied unexpectedly

Check whether the source was read-only page text or a managed rich editor where PromptDC could not verify safe insertion.

Shortcut conflict

Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts and assign a different general enhance shortcut.
