Install PromptDC

The PromptDC Desktop app for macOS and Windows is the flagship experience. One install works everywhere: select text in any app, browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox), email or chat client (Mail, Slack, Notion, Word, Outlook, Teams, Discord, Notes), AI desktop app (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok), IDE (Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Antigravity), or terminal CLI (Terminal, iTerm, Warp, Ghostty, Termius, Windows Terminal). Press Cmd+Shift+E (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+E (Windows) to review, replace, or copy.

PromptDC is the first desktop app to enhance prompts inside terminal CLIs—including Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, and Agy (Antigravity CLI). If you want one setup, the desktop app alone covers every app and workflow. You can also optionally install the Chrome extension for in-place web field rewriting, or IDE extensions for dedicated editor sidebars.

Desktop (Flagship)

Desktop on macOS

Electron 41 requires macOS 12.0 or later. PromptDC provides separate builds for Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

    Choose the correct build

    Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. If Chip names Apple M1 or later, download Apple silicon. If Processor names Intel, download the Intel build. You should see the installer in Downloads.

    Install and open PromptDC

    Open the download, move PromptDC into Applications if prompted, then launch it. You should see the PromptDC onboarding window. If macOS blocks the launch, open System Settings, review the security message, and allow the app from there.

    Finish onboarding and enable access

    Continue until Finish setup, then choose Enable access. In System Settings, open Privacy & Security, then Accessibility, and turn on PromptDC. Return to PromptDC. You should see Accessibility is on before setup can finish. macOS may later request separate Automation access when PromptDC first uses System Events.

    Sign in and configure app defaults

    Open Settings from the PromptDC menu-bar icon and choose Continue with Google or Continue with Apple. Complete the browser flow. In Settings, configure your preferred default profiles for specific applications (such as Code for Cursor and terminals, or Email for Mail).

If Accessibility stays off

Remove PromptDC from the Accessibility list, add or enable it again, quit PromptDC, and reopen it. See Permissions for the full reset procedure.

Desktop on Windows

    Download the installer

    Download the Windows .exe. You should see the PromptDC installer in your browser downloads.

    Run the installer

    Open the .exe and follow the installer. Launch PromptDC when it completes. You should see the onboarding window and then a PromptDC icon in the Windows notification area.

    Complete onboarding

    Work through the feature screens and finish setup. Windows does not show a permission prompt and needs no UAC approval or administrator access. The tray icon should remain available after the window closes.

    Sign in and set app defaults

    Open Settings from the tray menu, choose Continue with Google or Continue with Apple, and finish in the browser. In Settings, assign default profiles to applications like Windows Terminal, VS Code, or Outlook.

If the tray icon is missing

Check the hidden icons area, then launch PromptDC from the Start menu. If the app did not install, download a fresh .exe and run the installer again.

Chrome extension

The Chrome extension is an optional addition for Chrome users, providing in-place rewriting across editable web fields without requiring Accessibility permissions.

    Add the extension

    Open PromptDC in the Chrome Web Store and choose Add to Chrome. Confirm the requested permissions. You should see PromptDC on the extensions page.

  2. 02

    Pin PromptDC

    Open Chrome's Extensions menu and pin PromptDC. Its icon should stay visible beside the address bar.

  3. 03

    Sign in from the side panel

    Click the PromptDC icon to open the side panel. Choose Continue with Google or Continue with Apple and finish the sign-in flow. The side panel should show the enhancement editor and settings instead of the login overlay.

    Confirm the toolbar

    Open a regular website and focus an editable text field. You should see the floating PromptDC toolbar near the field, with support for per-website default profiles.

If the toolbar does not appear

Reload the page after installation, confirm PromptDC is enabled at chrome://extensions, and right-click the page to check whether Enable PromptDC on this site is available. Chrome internal pages do not allow extension content scripts.

VS Code extension

    Install PromptDC

    Open Extensions in VS Code, search for PromptDC, verify the publisher is PromptDC, and choose Install. You can also use the Visual Studio Marketplace listing. The PromptDC icon should appear in the Activity Bar.

  2. 02

    Start login

    Select the PromptDC Activity Bar icon and open All Settings. Choose Login. Your browser opens the PromptDC account flow while VS Code shows Waiting for authorization.

  3. 03

    Finish sign-in

    Finish sign-in in the browser and return to VS Code. You should see Successfully logged in to PromptDC and the login overlays should disappear from PromptDC settings.

If sign-in does not return

Keep VS Code open, restart Login from PromptDC settings, and complete the newest browser tab. If installation does not activate, reload the VS Code window from the Command Palette.

Cursor extension

    Install PromptDC

    Open Extensions in Cursor, search for PromptDC, verify the publisher, and choose Install. If it is not listed in the editor, open the Open VSX listing. The PromptDC icon should appear in the Activity Bar.

    Start login

    Open PromptDC, choose All Settings, then Login. Complete the PromptDC browser flow while Cursor shows Waiting for authorization.

  3. 03

    Finish sign-in

    Return to Cursor. You should see the success notification and unlocked PromptDC settings.

If the extension is installed but not visible

Reload the editor window, then look for PromptDC in the Activity Bar overflow menu. Restart Login if authorization was cancelled or timed out.

Verify the install

Verify desktop or Chrome

Select text in any app or web field, choose a profile like Grammar or Code, and press Cmd+Shift+E (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+E (Windows). An editable review popover appears showing the enhanced text; select Replace to update the field or Copy to keep the original. Continue with Enhancing text for the full workflow.

Verify VS Code or Cursor

In VS Code, type a prompt in the AI chat input and run Enhance Prompt. In Cursor and other Open VSX editors, keep focus and selection in the chat input to enhance your prompt with target-agent controls. Remember that the desktop app alone already covers IDE chat panels and terminals. Continue with the editor guide.
